Our Mission

An IDEA BUILT ON LOVING AS CHRIST LOVED

Where Formation Meets Service

When Dr. Jonathan Reyes founded Christ in the City in 2010, he understood that young people were seeking to give themselves in a radical way to make a positive change in the world.

At the same time, they were searching for meaning in life and facing the challenges that their Catholic faith presented in a culture that has drifted so far from God. Dr. Reyes envisioned a program that would form young people to “think with the Church” on the issues of our time, while at the same time, putting that faith into action: loving our brothers and sisters in the streets.

The mission of Christ in the City is rooted in drawing it’s participants into an intimate relationship with Jesus, touching what it means to be human: being loved by God in the midst of our own poverty and being called to love those around us in the midst of their own poverty.

Through this process, missionaries are better equipped to grow during their time with us and thrive as emerging leaders who return to their communities with a profound and mature faith. They return home with the skills to form others in service and to evangelize our culture and society.

Our Story

Hear from our founder, Dr. Jonathan Reyes, as he shares the inspiration and vision for Christ in the City—including a very special visit to Denver by our patron, St. John Paul II.

4 Pillars of Formation

HUMAN + Spiritual + intellectual + Apostolic

Christ in the City’s approach to ministry is rooted in what Pope Benedict said in God is Love, “practical activity is always insufficient unless it visibly expresses a love for man, a love nourished by an encounter with Christ.”

In order to accomplish this, Christ in the City has a full-time formation team dedicated to walking with the missionaries throughout their time with us.

Formators accompany missionaries through the challenges of homeless ministry, community living, and personal growth. They work to draw out the greatest potential of their missionaries by intentionally challenging them on growth in masculinity / femininity, integrity, leadership, and the spiritual life.

Through this process, missionaries are better equipped to grow during their time with us and thrive as emerging leaders who return to their communities with a profound and mature faith. They return home with the skills to form others in service and to evangelize our culture and society.
