Hi, I'm Michaela

My name’s Michaela and I’m a 2nd year Christ in the City missionary from Denver, CO.

What brought you to Christ in the City?

During my senior year of college, I had a stirring in my heart to shift my plans and pursue mission work before jumping into my career. As a Colorado native, Christ in the City was highly recommended to me. I signed up to volunteer at a Lunch in the Park to learn more about the mission, and was immediately drawn to the way the missionaries pursued the person in front of them. The more I looked into Christ in the City, the more I fell in love with the mission. My desires to live in community, to grow in formation, and to pursue a deeper relationship with the Lord were met with opportunities as a missionary.

How has Christ in the City helped you grow?

Christ in the City has helped me grow in a number of ways, many of which I’m still discovering. One area of significance has been growing in my awareness and understanding of what matters most to me: growing into the woman I’ve been created to be. I have always found purpose in loving and serving others, and this year of service has helped me to begin uncovering the “why” behind this action. 1 John 4:19 tells us, “We love because He first loved us,” and this verse provides meaning behind my desire to love others. It is only through Christ that this ministry makes a difference, and because He loves me, I am able to pour out that love for others. I have grown in my understanding of my human smallness and ultimately the need to depend on Him in everything I do.

A bit about me

I’m a Colorado girl, but I also call the midwest home after four years at Kansas State University (go cats!). I find joy in the beauty of nature, and feel close to the Lord when I’m out exploring, especially in the mountains. I thrive on quality time with the people I love, and have an affinity for anything purple. I fit in well with grandmas, especially when they’re drinking tea and crafting. The farthest east I’ve lived is Kansas, so the east coast will be a new adventure for me. Pray for me in this transition to a 2nd year at Christ in the City!
