I’m a 2nd year missionary from Chesterfield, MO.
What brought you to Christ in the City?
I first heard about Christ in the City from a friend at college, and right away it struck a deep chord in my heart. I was drawn by a desire to bring the love of Christ to those who are most unloved and neglected in our society- the poor and the homeless. After going on a spring break mission trip, I fell in love with the homeless and discovered how tangibly we can encounter Christ through them. They can teach us all so much about simplicity of heart and our own need for love. Since I desired an opportunity to give myself in service to God after graduation and live in a community seeking holiness, Christ in the City seemed like a good fit for me.
How has Christ in the City helped you grow?
This year has stretched my heart to learn how to love others, whether that be the poor or the community I live with, in a deeper way. I have learned more how to empathize with them in their sufferings and their joys, and to be present to them. More than anything else, I have learned how much I need God, and how much I need the support of other people.
A bit about me
I am 22 years old, and my hometown is Chesterfield, MO, a suburb of St Louis (let’s go Cardinals!!). I come from a big Catholic family with 9 older siblings (6 brothers, 3 sisters). I love spending time with them and my nieces and nephews. I recently graduated from Franciscan University of Steubenville with a degree in Philosophy. In my free time, I love playing guitar, singing, playing board games, and reading just about anything I can get my hands on, but especially the lives of the saints. I enjoy playing sports and yard games with friends, such as basketball, pickleball, and spikeball. I also like cooking and baking, and have a passion for chocolate chip cookies!
