Missionary class of 2013
A Cornerstone of Christ in the City
James, a cornerstone of Christ in the City’s founding years, deserves a moment in the spotlight. For those who were part of the organization’s early days, his contributions are undoubtedly etched in memory. As a dedicated missionary and later a staff member, James played an instrumental role in shaping the mission’s trajectory. Working alongside the founding Director, Yvonne, he helped lay the groundwork for the success we see today, often behind the scenes but with a profound impact.
A Pilot’s Perspective
Following his time with Christ in the City, James embarked on a new chapter in his life, pursuing a career as a charter pilot. His travels across the United States have offered him unique perspectives and opportunities to connect with people from diverse backgrounds. “The formation I received at Christ in the City was one of pure humanity, showing me who I am and who others are,” said James. “It has helped me so much in loving my wife and son, those I work with, and anyone I come across. The old man is still very much in me, but the light I see in the world is brighter because of my formation at Christ in the City. I don’t get to see a lot of the fruit that may come from my actions, but I trust they are there, somewhere in time.”
A Family of Service
Beyond his professional pursuits, James is a devoted family man. Married to Sarah since 2015, their commitment to others is evident in their year as foster parents, caring for three children, and their more recent experience as parents to their son, Gus.
A Life of Hospitality
James and Sarah are also deeply committed to hospitality. Their home serves as a welcoming space for friends, family, and those in need. “Living poverty in my life is something I constantly strive for but rarely feel I ever achieve,” James shared. “My wife and I focus on hospitality very much in our marriage, trying to help others when able. We try to welcome people into our home for as long as they need, and feeding anyone we can.”
A Legacy of Generosity
James and Sarah have found creative ways to live out their commitment to generosity and encounter. Their actions, such as making stuffed water bottles with notes for homeless individuals or giving money directly to those in need, have inspired others in the community. Their witness reflects their unwavering belief in the power of human connection.
A Heartfelt Thank You
Thank you, James, for your dedicated commitment to others, all you’ve done for Christ in the City over the years, and the ways you continue to pour yourself out for others. Your legacy of service will undoubtedly inspire generations to come.
