Missionary, 2018-2020

We recently had the pleasure of catching up with Christ in the City alum, Max Marko. He shared updates on his life, career, and how his time at Christ in the City continues to influence his journey.
A Path Woven by Providence
“After completing my time with Christ in the City, I moved to Loveland, CO, to be closer to my parents and my now-wife, Sarah. In God’s remarkable providence, my parents had already decided to move from Sioux Falls, SD, to Loveland well before I ever met Sarah. What’s even more astonishing is that both of our families were attending the same church long before we knew each other existed!
During this time, I began pursuing a Master’s in Counseling at Divine Mercy University, taking on a variety of odd jobs to support myself as a student—working as an escape room operator, house flipper, antique restorer, and in a PSH facility. My counseling internship was with Larimer County Community Corrections, where I primarily treated substance use disorders in adult male felons.
The Enduring Impact of Christ in the City Formation
Max married his wonderful wife, Sarah, on February 3, 2023, and they welcomed their son, Augustine “Gus” Levi, on January 26, 2024. In May of 2024, he celebrated his graduation from Divine Mercy University. Today, Max is a therapist at LifeStance Health in Fort Collins, Colorado, specializing in treating clients with anxiety and OCD.
He finds that “The formation I received at Christ in the City has proven to be continually relevant as I’ve entered the helping profession. It was there that I first encountered Mother Teresa’s powerful message about recognizing Jesus in the distressing disguise of the poor.
Since then, I’ve had countless opportunities to see this message come to life in diverse and profound ways. In my efforts to more fully conform myself to Christ, I believe my clients benefit from a therapeutic relationship rooted in the deep respect for each person’s inherent dignity and their belonging to the Lord.” If you know anyone who might benefit from therapy, feel free to send them his way: Max Marko at LifeStance Health.
Building Community and Embracing Goodness
“My wife and I are committed to building community wherever we go and with whomever we meet. This has looked different in each season of our lives, but our most recent adventure has been moving into a duplex shared with another young Catholic family in our area.
Together, we aim to host events and raise our children in a vibrant, supportive community. We have given what we can, trusting in God’s provision, and He has blessed us abundantly, especially in our times of need. I’m proud that our invitations have always been inclusive, and that our community continues to grow, rooted in the belief that every person we meet holds inherent goodness and value.”
Thank you, Max!
You bring a unique blend of ingenuity and compassion to everything you do. Your family’s dedication to hospitality and community building is a true inspiration. We’re immensely proud to see you channeling your remarkable gifts into healing and support for so many, and we wish you, Sarah, and Gus all the best!
