Hi, I'm Sam

I’m a 2nd year missionary from College Station, TX.

What brought you to Christ in the City?

I first heard about Christ in the City through one of my best friends. Three years ago, he served in Denver for a summer and came home a totally different man. As I grew closer towards graduating college, I realized that I wanted to spend the next stage of my life serving others through the extension of the Lord’s mercy. My desire to serve was particularly focused toward those who were looked down upon by most of society. This all led me to serve with Christ in the City last year, and this year the Lord has again given me the space to be with His poor in Philly.

How has Christ in the City helped you grow?

Christ in the City has helped me grow in my capacity for authentic love. Each moment of every day, there is an opportunity to choose to love – whether that is something as small as doing someone else’s dishes for them or giving up the little free time in your week to walk with your brother or sister through something difficult. Sometimes, the hardest thing for me to do is to receive those same things from others and not just give in love but also receive. Most times, the choice to love is not easy, but choosing amidst the difficulty is how we grow. As my heart has been stretched this year, it has opened for a greater capacity to love.

A little about me…

I am the youngest of four boys in my family, I was born and raised in College Station, Texas, and recently graduated from Texas A&M University (Gig ’em Ags!) with a BS in Ocean Engineering. I was raised Catholic, and over time have fallen so in love with the Church. I love to be outdoors, whether I am playing soccer, basketball, pickleball, or any sport really, whether I am going on a hike or rock climbing. I love nature, and I love how beautifully and intentionally it reflects the Lord’s heart and love for all of His creation. I love music, whether playing piano or guitar, singing, or just listening. I have also been known to play the occasional video game. All of these hobbies are even more precious when shared with good friends, and I am so thankful to say that the Lord has blessed me with many good friends throughout my life!
