What brought you to Christ in the City?
When I moved to Anchorage, AK in 2024, I got involved with a Catholic homeless mission called Urban Hearts (shoutout to my UH family!) and quickly fell in love with serving the poor and the community life that comes with it. Urban Hearts is basically a smaller scale version of Christ in the City, only doing ministry on Saturdays. The past couple of years with Urban Hearts has led to so much growth in my life and so many awesome stories from our friends on the street. At the start of this year, I was doing some research on Christ in the City just out of curiosity, and when I discovered they have full time missionaries, I was hit with a deep sense of excitement and adventure that I hadn’t had in a while. From there, I sent in an application, went on an experience visit and had the time of my life, got accepted, and now I’m here!
What are you looking forward to?
I’m looking forward to basically everything this mission has to offer. Obviously I’m looking forward to meeting and serving all our friends out in Denver, but I’m also stoked to live in community with potentially 35 other Catholic young adults striving for the same goals that I am. Also it’s such a beautiful opportunity to lay down my life for others and “love until it hurts” in a concrete, hands-on kind of way. It’s an environment that I haven’t been in before and I think there will be tons of formation and growth that comes from this year of service that will help me become the man that God is calling me to be.
A little bit about me…
I’m the youngest of 5 and I grew up in a small town in northern Virginia. I’ve got a pretty random combination of interests like basically every sport, traveling and adventures, video games and tech stuff, music, the beauty of God’s creation in nature, carpentry, blacksmithing/making knives, lifting weights… I have a two year degree in cybersecurity and I worked in cybersecurity for a little over 4 years before joining CITC. I’ve spent the past two years living in Anchorage, AK going on all sorts of adventures like chasing northern lights, snowboarding, hiking, salmon fishing, flying, kayaking, and anything else that seems appealing. I also mentioned being an Urban Hearts missionary for the past two years, and I’ve been running a local Catholic young adult group for the past year or so. Truly just trying to make the most out of the life God has given me!
