Hi, I'm Mason

I’m a 2nd year missionary from Baton Rouge, Louisiana!

What brought you to Christ in the City?

I heard about Christ in the City from a friend and former missionary during my freshman year of college. He started a street ministry at LSU and the first time I went I truly encountered Christ in the poor. I would keep being involved with street ministry throughout my time in college. During my sophomore year, on a mission trip, a priest recommended me to do a summer with CIC.  So, I did a three-week summer of service with Christ in the City in Dayton, Ohio in the summer of 2023. Those three weeks were so life giving. I fell in love with the life we were living in prayer, community, and loving the poor.  I loved it so much I applied for another summer in Dallas right when the applications opened. Throughout my junior year, I had a strong desire to give more of myself to the Lord through the mission of Christ in the City.  So, I took a leap of faith and applied for a year of service with Christ in the City.

How has Christ in the City helped you grow?

Christ in the City has helped me grow by first showing the goodness of myself through living in community. My fellow missionaries have affirmed that I am good and loved and helped me see myself more as the Father looks at me. With becoming more rooted in knowing the goodness of myself, I believe I have grown in being a disciple of Jesus Christ and following his new commandment, loving one another as he loved me. I have become more rooted knowing I am loved, and it has made me to want to go out and show the love Christ has for those he has put in my life. Christ in the City has helped me love more like him.

I also think Christ in the City has helped me to see what authentic masculinity looks like and has helped me embrace it.

A little about me…

I am the son of two loving parents. I have two awesome brothers as well. I was born and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I love to spend time with friends, read, and play sports, especially basketball! I graduated at Catholic Highschool in Baton, Rouge (Go Bears!) and I wrestled during my time there. I went to college for three years at LSU, and lived in a Catholic fraternity house for two of those years called the St. John Paul II house. I am a big supporter of affirming the goodness of others.   My confirmation saint is Saint John the Beloved! I also have a very distinct chuckle as a laugh.
