What brought you to Christ in the City?
What led me to Christ in the City was a long-standing desire to serve. Throughout college, I spent every summer as a counselor at Catholic summer camps, experiences that deepened my love for mission work and confirmed my desire to dedicate a year after graduation to serving others. From a young age, I’ve felt a profound calling to care for the poor, and that conviction has only grown stronger over time. Through the encouragement of my pastors and friends, I was introduced to Christ in the City and found myself captivated by its mission: to heal the deepest form of poverty—loneliness—through authentic relationships. After prayerful discernment, I felt the Lord calling me to give of myself radically this coming year, and I believe Christ in the City is exactly where I’m meant to do that.
How has Christ in the City helped you grow?
This year at Christ in the City, I’ve learned how to truly love people in their weaknesses. Both within our community and on the streets, we encounter individuals at some of the lowest and most difficult points of their lives. To love like Christ means choosing to meet them exactly where they are, rather than where we wish they could be. I’ve also grown in my willingness to let my heart be moved by others’ suffering. While loving deeply makes you vulnerable to being hurt, it is worth allowing your heart to break for the sake of another.
A little bit about me…
I recently graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a degree in biomedical engineering. I have spent four summers serving at Catholic summer camps in Wisconsin and Colorado, where I discovered the joy of mission-driven work and the beauty of living in community. I love staying active, whether that be through pickup sports, hiking mountain trails, or simply spending time in God’s creation. I also have a deep love for coffee, embroidery, swing dancing, and good books.
