Hi, I'm Brooke

What brought you to CIC?

When I first heard the story of St. Maria Goretti at age 15, the Lord planted a deep desire in my heart to love and serve His children. Her ability to see the face of Christ in those who didn’t even know themselves left a lasting impression on me. Over the years, the Lord has continued to reveal this call through moments of mercy, healing, and transformation in my own life.

While working at Life Teen Camp Cove Crest, a friend told me about Christ in the City, and the mission immediately resonated with me. It brought me back to the story of St. Maria Goretti—someone I now consider a dear spiritual friend. It reminded me that Jesus is constantly seeking the hearts of His children, and how much I long to be part of that pursuit—meeting people where they are and reminding them of their dignity and belovedness.

How has Christ in the City helped you grow?

My time at Christ in the City has revealed how important it is for me to depend on God. I can not love the poor or my community if I do not first surrender myself at the foot of the cross every morning. I have also learned the importance of unconditional love, loving people not for who I want them to be, but for who they really are. It has been a year of purification and intimate love. As Christ prunes space for Himself in heart, I look forward to a second year and the fruit that will be harvested.

A little bit about me…

I grew up on the Coast of Mississippi and graduated from Mississippi State University with a degree in biomedical engineering. My greatest fear is baby ducks and one of my greatest inspirations is to paint the inside of a church!
