Hi, I'm Ava

Ava, 2nd year missionary from Waxahachie, Texas.

What brought you to Christ in the City?

I learned about Christ in the City in 2023 and found it beautiful how young adults come together to share the heart of Jesus with the homeless. While I was visiting Denver, I fell in love with the mission of serving our friends on the streets and forming true relationships with them. God guided every step I took toward Christ in the City, and all I had to do was say ‘yes’ and trust in Him!

How has Christ in the City helped you grow?

Throughout this year at Christ in the City, I’ve been drawn out of myself in ways I didn’t know were possible. Our schedules are filled with times to give of ourselves to the poor and to the other members of our community whether that be cooking a meal at our house or walking the streets but before we can do any of this, we start off the day resting in prayer. It didn’t take long for me to realize that without prayer I can do nothing. Being a missionary has helped me to grow in complete reliance on the Father to sustain me and love through me when I truly have nothing left to give. I’ve grown in confidence in my identity as a daughter of God and because of that I’m able to share the love God has for all of his children with those I am privileged to encounter.

A little bit about me…

I grew up in North Texas with a very supportive family who encourages me to try new things and chase after what God is calling me to do. Until I graduated high school in 2024, I performed in musicals and plays from a young age and loved every second of it. I am currently in my first year at Texas State
University majoring in Pre-Nursing. I enjoy spending time with my family, resting with Jesus in adoration, reading, trying new recipes, running, and hanging out with my sweet dogs.
