Missionary class of 2021
We’re so proud to feature Macie Weaver, whose dedication and passion left a lasting impact on our program. After serving as a missionary for two years, Macie joined our team as the Communications Manager.
She played a key role in sharing the stories of our homeless friends through social media, editing our podcast, as well as co-producing our recent documentary, Homeless but Human.
Macie’s gift for connection wasn’t just for storytelling, it opened doors to the hearts of our homeless friends. She cultivated genuine friendships on the streets, allowing us to hear their stories firsthand through interviews with the very people she helped find housing.
Last year, Macie took the next step in her career, moving back home to New Orleans and pursuing her passion for helping others even further. She recently graduated with her Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and now works as a therapist at Catholic Counseling for the Archdiocese of New Orleans.
The experiences she gained serving alongside the homeless continue to shape her approach to her clients. “I find myself blown away by the bravery I see in each of my clients every single day,” she says. “I am humbled by the honored space I get to have to hear peoples stories and help them walk through the hardest times of their lives. It was at Christ in the City where I learned how to create space for the other, how to love purely, and hold hope alongside the people I get to serve- all things I value most in my clinical career now. I am a better therapist because of my time at Christ in the City.”
Macie’s story is a testament to the transformative power of service. Today, her influence is extending even beyond the therapy room. She’s partnering with a priest at the local seminary to develop a formation program modeled after Christ in the City’s successful relational approach to outreach.
This program will incorporate mental health education specific to the New Orleans community. With the support of Christ in the City’s outreach director, Macie will guide seminarians in their formation and equip them to serve the city’s most vulnerable population.
Thank you, Macie, for the lasting impact you’ve made on the Christ in the City community! We are cheering you on in this exciting new chapter!
