A Modern-Day Zacchaeus

Dominic first served with Christ in the City as a year-long missionary. “Like Zacchaeus, I climbed up that tree when I did Christ in the City. That is where Jesus invited himself in,” he shared. He told me that the tree has an 18-year-old missionary hungry for His attention and so he invited Himself in but he asked in return that I give Him the same amount of attention. I am so thankful that He has and does.

Upon returning home, Dominic initially believed his time with Christ in the City was over. However, as he shared, “that lasted about a year until the Lord invited himself in again. No matter my plans for my life, it seems like He is always present. He called me back to Christ In The City for two years to be the in-house facilitator. While I was there, he provided a job with a company that had very similar values and beliefs. But He wasn’t done making himself at home in my life.

A Pivotal Encounter: Horizon West

Dominic began his journey with Horizon West Builders as a laborer. “It is cool to be able to work for the Church where God is literally providing my paycheck,” he shared. A lot of the construction that we do is on Archdiocesan properties, such as churches. And now I get to change the landscape of the Catholic Church in Denver, in a sense.” Through hard work and dedication, Dominic has advanced to now managing some projects. He appreciates working for a company that is “very family-oriented and they hold the same values as I do.”

Sacrifice on the Altar

“Saint Benedict was all about work and prayer and God has blessed me to the point where my work is in a house of prayer. I get to reflect and pray on my life as a sacrifice on the altar as I get to build an altar.” Dominic’s story is a reminder that God’s plans often surpass our own expectations. His journey is a testament to the power of faith, the importance of community, and the transformative potential of even the most ordinary tasks.

A Beacon of Light

Thank you, Dom, for always bringing light, laughter, and a youthful energy to everything you do. Your dedication to your faith and community is evident in your work at Horizon West and the way you are present to others. We’re confident that you will continue to be a beacon of light and a living example of God’s love to all those you encounter!
