Merry Christmas – A Letter from the Executive Director

Dear Friends in Christ,

As we near the end of the Advent season, a season of waiting and quiet hope, we find ourselves reflecting with deep gratitude on the ways God has worked through you this past year. Your prayers, your friendship, and your generosity have allowed the light of Christ to shine on the streets across the country in profound and beautiful ways.

Advent reminds us that Christ comes gently and humbly. He comes into the hidden places of the human heart and into places where so many feel unseen. Thanks to your support, our missionaries have been able to bring hope and Christian joy into their daily encounters with our friends experiencing homelessness, those in jails, hospitals, nursing homes, and shelters.

This year, we have witnessed His grace shine in simple and yet powerful ways:

  • One of our homeless friends shared that simply being known by name and met consistently “gave me hope for humanity and for me being part of humanity.”
  • A young mother, navigating pregnancy without a stable place to stay, told us that Christ in the City became “an oasis in the desert” at a time she felt most abandoned.
  • And countless missionaries have shared how a simple “hello,” offered week after week on the same street corner, became the doorway to trust, healing, and the recovery of dignity.

As we approach Christmas, we are reminded again of the Holy Family’s own vulnerability: Mary and Joseph seeking shelter, the Christ Child born in humility, and the shepherds called from the outskirts to witness His coming. This makes me think of the poor and the abandoned we encounter in our ministry, also longing for welcome, for connection, and for a place where they can rest in the truth that they are loved by God and by His people.

As you prepare your heart for Christmas, we humbly invite you to remember Christ in the City. Your generous donation sustains the very heart of our ministry:

  • Supporting our full-time missionaries to walk the streets reaching out to the most abandoned with the love of Christ.
  • Providing for Lunch in the Park, where shared meals between the poor and hundreds of volunteers from parishes and high schools become the setting for friendship, dignity, and community.
  • Enabling volunteers to reach out to the poor and the lonely in jails, nursing homes, hospitals, and shelters.

Your gift, whatever its size, is part of God’s work of restoring broken hearts, healing wounds of loneliness, and bringing friendship and hope to those who feel forgotten and live in despair.

Please pray for our missionaries and our homeless friends who feel most lonely during Christmas and the winter months, and know that we hold you and your family in prayer throughout Advent and Christmas.

Thank you for walking with us. And thank you for helping us bring the light of Christ to our friends living on the streets this Christmas.

With deep gratitude,
Eduardo Regal
