ANNUAL CELEBRATION – OCT 2, 2021

WHAT IS A WATCH PARTY?

It can be as simple as providing wifi and a place to gather!

FAQ’S:
What is a watch party?

Have you ever been to a Super Bowl watch party? Well, it’s kind of like that. A Christ in the City watch party is a great way to gather family and friends together to learn about our mission of serving the poor.

What will we be watching?

You’ll be joining 1,000+ people from across 41+ states to learn about how to encounter the poor and homeless in their own communities.

Society typically provides shelter, food, and other important, basic needs to help the homeless populations where we live. But even these resources don’t seem to be enough to solve the deeper issue.

As vital as these things are, to address more than just the symptoms, we have to answer a few important questions:

What is the root cause of homelessness?
What pushes someone to embrace life on the streets?
What can we do to make a meaningful, life-changing difference to them?

And while these issues are complex— you might be surprised to learn that the solution is a lot simpler than you think. In fact, it’s really something anyone can do, no matter who they are or where they live.

This is really what our virtual event on October 2nd is all about: Revealing the Root of Homelessness.

And we won’t stop at just revealing it, we’ll explore the simple solution that is empowering communities nationwide to encounter the poor in their own cities with an approach that is proven to bring about healing.

Why should I host one?

(instead of just tuning in by myself?)

We are made for communion. Jesus even sent out the Apostles two by two. When it comes to making a difference in your community, it is best done with other people. When you are in a group, you can support and encourage each other. Hosting a watch party enables you and your group to learn practical tools so then you can go out together to make an impact on the lives of the poor in your community.

This is a global issue and we need your help to make an impact. Discover your call to serve the poor and let God lead you into service. Sign up for a watch party and be a leader for change in your community!

What does a watch party cost?

Both the virtual event and hosting a watch party are free!

What kind of technology do I need?

The event will be virtual.  You can connect your laptop to a TV with an HDMI cable or Smart TV. We recommend checking your connection a few days ahead of time and connecting a half an hour before the live event. More details to come.

How long will it last?

The live show (7-8pm MST) will be just under one hour! The social hour before (6-7pm MST) is a great time to socialize with your guests and bid on auction items before the show begins.

Who should I invite?

That’s a great question! A watch party is perfect for family and friends, youth groups, campus ministry groups, parish groups, small faith groups, someone who wants something like Christ in the City in their area, and more! Any group of 5+ people counts as a watch party!

What comes in the watch party kit?
  • Your hosting guide to the evening
  • The name of a homeless friend your watch party can pray for
  • Special prayer cards for that specific homeless friend
  • A signature drink recipe (crafted specifically for this event by Michael P. Foley!)
  • A custom patron saint tea light to burn during the event (by Corda Candle)
  • New Christ in the City stickers, magazines, & more!
  • PLUS, for hosting 5+ friends, a saint wine charm set of our patrons
  • Are my guests expected to donate?
Are my guests expected to donate?

Our Annual Celebration is our biggest fundraiser of the year! Your guests will have the opportunity to support our mission through our silent auction and/or making a financial gift. Donations are greatly appreciated and help make this ministry possible, yet we understand everyone has a different capacity to give. We are grateful for whatever generosity we receive!

How can I engage my guests?

Here are some creative ideas to engage your guests with the mission:

  • CARE KITS: You’ll see during our program how we use care kits to break the ice and start conversations on the streets. Consider making a few care kits for your guests to keep in their cars when they leave. We’ve included an example in our watch party boxes! You can find a list of items to include here. Let us know how it goes!
  • HOST A MISSIONARY: Sponsors have the opportunity for a missionary to co-host their watch party. Details here!
  • KNOW YOUR AREA: Create a short list of the local resources for the poor and homeless. Talk among your group about how to engage in your community.
How will the auction work?

A few days before the auction opens, we will email you a silent auction link to forward to your guests. The silent auction will open three days before the event on Wednesday, September 29 and will close on Saturday, October 2 at 7 pm MST. Bid the last last hour of the silent auction during social hour!

Do I need to provide dinner?

One of the best parts about a watch party is that you can make it whatever you want.  Provide a full dinner, appetizers, make it a potluck, or stick to just dessert and drinks (we know it’s a bit late for you East Coasters!) Sponsors get a catered meal! Find out more here.

I’m a college student, can I host a watch party?

Absolutely! Reserve a classroom on campus, make some popcorn, and you’re ready! If CIC has touched your heart, it’s the perfect opportunity to share this mission with your classmates, friends, Greek community, or campus ministry.

Is it appropriate for school-aged kids?

Christ in the City’s mission is a great way for the whole family to better see Christ in the poor. While some of the content may be difficult for children to understand, they will see and meet young men and women who are dedicating themselves to prayer and serving the poor. It’s a great avenue to begin a conversation with your children about caring for the “least of these brothers and sisters.”

Is there an RSVP deadline?

To ensure you get your watch party kit in time, please RSVP by Wednesday, September 15 with your estimated number of guests. You are welcome to RSVP after then, but we cannot guarantee your kit will arrive on time.
