My name’s Rachel and I’m a 1st-year Christ in the City missionary from Dickeyville, WI.
I visited Christ in the City last summer and I was taken aback by the radiance and genuine faith our brothers and sisters living on the street had. They ministered to me. I walked away from Lunch in the Park a different person, and since that visit I had kept this ministry in the back of my mind. The feeling of being called to this opportunity only grew stronger and more apparent, Praise God!
This year I have felt a deep ache in my heart for those experiencing unfathomable suffering. I feel that my capacity to love and serve is continually stretched and expanded beyond my greatest limitations. I know it is Him, Jesus, who is gently inviting me every moment of the day to deny my own comfort, to sit in their suffering with them, and to rejoice in the overwhelming, never-ending, resurrecting love of God. I pray my heart continues to house the homeless, as this is where His presence finds it dwelling.
I just finished my sophomore year at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse where I majored in Public and Community Health. The last two years at UWL have been transformational and forming, as I’ve grown to know the beauty of our Catholic faith and the fulfillment of giving ourselves for the sake of another. I’ve always found unexplainable joy in helping the vulnerable and making a gift of my time. I am passionate about the pro-life movement and the protection, empowerment, and value it places on human life at every stage.
