My name’s Maria and I’m a 2nd year Christ in the City missionary from Arvada, CO.
What brought you to Christ in the City?
I have been involved with Christ in the City for many years. The missionaries were my youth leaders when I was young and invited me to serve with them often. Growing up in such a vibrant community of young people living for the Lord ignited my heart for mission. I have gotten a front row seat to the growth and impact Christ in the City has provided, not only for our friends on the streets but for the missionaries who have served. I can’t wait to help bring the joy of this mission to a new city!
How has Christ in the City helped you grow?
Christ in the City has given me the chance to fall in love with the poor. And I have. This year I have also discovered great freedom. I have started becoming more of who God made me to be. It has been made abundantly clear this year that the Holy Spirit wants CIC in Philadelphia. My heart is drawn to help continue what He has only just begun doing here. The hearts of the poor are longing to be loved. I believe my roll is to be a bridge between my future community and the people on the street I have come to consider old friends. Besides, there is a multitude of people to
introduce to this love I am still only beginning to discover. Please keep me in your prayers as I take this next step.
A bit about me
I am a jack of all trades that wishes she could be the best at everything she does. I love anything artistic – theatre, music, writing, poetry, photography, film, painting, sketching…you get the idea. I am extremely laid back unless I am excited or passionate about something, then I am the loudest in the room. I think of myself as somewhat of a comedic genius. I start lots of things on a whim, my favorite one being Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I am both a mountain and an ocean person (I think it’s dumb that people make you choose between them). Snowboarding, hiking, hammocking, and anything in the ocean are my favorite outdoor activities. I absolutely love mission and cannot wait to serve the Lord in Philadelphia!!
