Hi, I'm Joe

My name’s Joe and I’m a 2nd year Christ in the City missionary from Indiana.

What brought you to Christ in the City?

My roommates for the last three years were FOCUS missionaries at Indiana University. Gabe, Brennan, and other friends from the Hoosier Catholic community loved me well, and the fruits of these relationships include deeper conversion, a greater desire for Divine Intimacy, and an eagerness for authentic friendship. I’m pursuing the opportunity to serve with Christ in the City because Jesus keeps making his case in prayer that He will continue to fulfill these desires throughout a year of service as a CIC missionary.

What are you looking forward to?

I was a summer of service missionary for Christ in the City these last two months, and I found the life to be very demanding and abundantly rewarding. I’m normally reserved and reluctant to express my feelings and ideas, but as the weeks passed, I became increasingly comfortable revealing myself to my teammates and friends. I’m excited to experience the greater closeness that will result from my improved ability to share myself with others. Also, the work we do, loving and serving the poor and our teammates with our hands and especially our hearts, is challenging and exhausts a lot of my energy. Throughout the summer, the Lord continually inspired me to rely on Him to supernaturally fill me up with charity, patience, and attentiveness when I found myself naturally drained. I’m looking forward to the Lord’s continued conversion of my heart as He calls me to a year of work beyond my liking and capacity and promises to uphold me along the way.

A bit about me

I’m making my way to Denver from Indianapolis, IN. There, I spent a large part of the last five years working alongside my dad and brother at the family tree care business. When I wasn’t working at home, I apprenticed in masonry and tile setting for a couple of home builders in a nearby college town. Off the clock, I enjoy reading and running.
