I’m a 2nd year missionary from Martinsville, IN.
What brought you to Christ in the City?
A desire to love others deeply and seek Christ out in the poor and my community. I initially heard about Christ in the City during the SEEK 2023 conference. The Holy Spirit gave me the courage to take a leap of faith and apply to the three-week summer of service in Dayton, OH. Not only did I gain friends in the homeless shelter, but I had never felt more loved, seen, and known in those three weeks by my community and shelter friends than I had in my entire life. I fell in love with the desire to surrender all that I am to Christ, to allow myself to be fully His. Christ in the City gives me the opportunity to truly surrender my life into His hands, and to love Him deeper and more fully.
How has Christ in the City helped you grow?
Christ in the City has helped me grow in every aspect of my life: learning to love and accept myself as a daughter desperately in need of her Father’s love, it has helped me love my fellow brothers and sisters in community and allow them to see me in all of my fullness, and it has transformed the ways in which I see Christ through the poorest of the poor (not only on the streets but also in myself).
A bit about me
My name is Erin and I am from a small town in Indiana. I have two sisters whom I love dearly. I have always been told I’m 5’3 but during my first year at Christ in the City I discovered (from the aid of one of our homeless friends) that I am actually 5’4. I love to journal and spend time with my favorite saints – Padre Pio and St. Thérèse of Lisieux. If I could be the patron saint of anything I’d be the patron saint of lemons.
