Hi, I'm Erin

My name’s Erin and I’m a 2nd year Christ in the City missionary from Toledo, OH.

What brought you to Christ in the City?

Christ’s presence in the poor. Encountering the poor has been a call for me for 7 years now. God worked through several people and opportunities in my life that lead me to Christ in the City. Having an opportunity to dedicate a full year to simply be with and encounter the poor is something I felt God calling me to do. So, here I am stepping out into the water trusting and letting the Lord guide me in this dance called life.

How has Christ in the City helped you grow?

Christ in the City has helped me recognize the complimentary of suffering and joy and my own poverty. Going out on the streets and casually encountering suffering has been a very transformative experience. I have been able to pray with the image of Mary and John at the foot of the cross. I can better understand how they must have felt being with Christ in His suffering. In praying and encountering suffering on the streets, I have been able to see Christ in my friends on the street, in my community members and in myself. Living with 33 other missionaries has been such a blessing but also a cross. I have learned how to receive and to be loved by others in such an intentional way. I am excited to see how the Lord will stretch and and shape my heart next year in Philly.
