Hi, I'm Claire

I’m a 2nd year missionary from Los Angeles, CA.

What brought you to Christ in the City?

I had the blessing of learning the unfailing and unboundless love the Lord has for me in college, as well as the ways the world is aching and how people do not know God’s love for them. I started desiring to serve in a life-changing way through full-time mission during the summer of my junior year in college, and found so many of my desires met in meeting and serving with the missionaries at Christ in the City during my experience weekend. The people at and around Christ in the City challenge me to love others solely by walking with them in their journey, without automatically trying to help out or fix things. I desire to learn how to love the Lord and other people more fully and completely by learning to lean not on my abilities, but instead on love, and through that foster sincerity, openness and joy.

How has Christ in the City helped you grow?

Christ in the City has helped me learn how to reverence the mystery of the human person and the beauty in how God created each of us. Both in community and on the streets, there are happy times and very difficult times, and a big part of my first year was learning how to walk with others throughout both of those times- and everything in between. Knowing that no one can completely know each human being except for the Lord, I have learned to embrace loving and receiving people as they come, and relying on the Holy Spirit more fully in my friendships and in each day.

A bit about me

I was born and raised in the sunny state of California. I graduated last May from the University of California, Berkeley where I studied Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. I am constantly listening to music, of any genre, and have a habit of listening to one song I like over and over again until I get tired of it. I am an amateur embroiderer and novice guitar player, and love trying out new recipes. I love spending quality time with people and finding ways to celebrate the uniqueness of each person. Please pray for me as I continue mission here in Philadelphia!
