I’m Maddy and I’m a 2nd year Christ in the City missionary from Orange County, CA.

What brought you to Christ in the City?

My time in college set my heart on fire with the love of God and gave me many opportunities to spread that fire, one of which being a week-long mission trip to Christ in the City. Immersing myself in the mission for a week really opened my eyes to the reality of our human life and the reality that we all desire the same things: to be seen, known, and loved. After visiting CIC, I felt the Lord calling me to continue sharing the graces I’ve received with people who need it most, so I said yes to a year of service!

How has Christ in the City helped you grow?
A saying we use a lot here at CIC is Mother Teresa’s quote “Love until it hurts”. Coming into this year, I had no idea what that really meant. As I’ve met friends on the street and lived in community with 30 other people, I have come to know what it means to “love until it hurts”. I have learned how to sit with others in their suffering and love them in it. I have allowed myself to be loved, and I have been reminded of my own belovedness.
A bit about me

I was born and raised in La Habra, CA, and I graduated from Carroll College last May. I am excited to dive into a new community in Denver, and I can’t wait to deepen relationships with my friends on the street. I think losing track of time is a sign of time well spent, I love avocados probably too much, and I order an iced vanilla latte no matter what the weather is like. I’m a firm believer that when we live and love like Jesus taught us, we find joy like never before!
