Missionary, 21-22
We were thrilled to hear from Maddie B. and learn about her exciting new chapter. After spending time in Atlanta and New York, she’s now a Delta flight attendant based in the Minneapolis area.
A Ministry of Presence
Maddie shared, “The formation I received at Christ in the City has helped me tremendously in my role as a flight attendant. It’s helped me develop a ministry of presence, caring for the passengers and crew members in front of me. I often encounter people who are stressed or traveling for difficult reasons. I’m able to sit with them, listen, and offer comfort, even if it’s just for a brief moment. It reminds me a lot of my time as a missionary—caring for the individuals we would encounter on the streets, knowing that we may never see them again. I like to pray for the pilots, flight attendants and passengers on board and desire eternity with them.
A Deeper Perspective
Christ in the City has profoundly impacted Maddie’s outlook on life. She explained, “Christ in the City has given me a genuine concern and care for the souls in front of me—I can’t look at people the same way anymore. I have felt like a pilgrim more than ever on this journey in life by finding my home and shelter as a beloved daughter of God in the Catholic Church, especially traveling around the world. Christ in the City has helped me realize there is more to this life than this present life!
Trusting in God’s Timing
As a flight attendant, Maddie’s schedule can be unpredictable. However, she said, “I’m learning to trust God to provide, even in the little things like how I will make it to Sunday Mass. I’m eager to receive what He has in store for me in His perfect timing.”
