What brought you to Christ in the City?

I first heard about Christ in the City when my sister served as a missionary several years ago. I was able to visit her multiple times and saw everything CIC had to offer. I loved attending lunch in the park and seeing the impact of living in community. Since then, at home, I have served living in a homeless house of hospitality for women and children during a summer break. I have also been able to return to CIC for two mission trips. During my most recent visit, I talked to a friend on the street who remembered me from the one time we met over 5 years prior. The Lord showed me how powerful and impactful CIC is. Once I heard the Philadelphia location was starting, I knew he was calling me to the mission.

What are you looking forward to?

I am most looking forward to everything new and getting out of my comfort zone: a new city and new friendships! Transitioning to this change will be uncomfortable but oh so worth it. I heard someone describe CIC as a place of Catholic formation with a flavor of service. Being able to grow closer to Christ through daily prayer, constant learning, and fellowship is another thing I’m really excited about.

A bit about me
I grew up on a farm in Sigel, which is a super small town in central Illinois. I am the youngest of 7 (fun fact: all of our names begin with J). I just finished my bachelor’s degree in Psychology from EIU. I am spontaneous and enjoy fun, random decisions, such as getting ice-cream late at night or quick trips to the closest city. I also love all things outdoors like running, hiking, sports (especially sand volleyball), camping, and hammocking. With 6 siblings, I have become extra competitive and look forward to any challenges that come at me.

everyone deserves
to be known & loved

If you join me in the mission as a monthly supporter, you will also become part of Known & Loved, Christ in the City’s monthly giving community! We are so grateful for our monthly supporters and their consistent generosity which makes it possible for us missionaries to be formed and reach out the homeless all year-long.
